Can I install my own system?
We recommend that you have our technician install your system. Our techs do it every day and have encountered just about all circumstances that can make it difficult. It usually takes 45 minutes to 2 hours for our techs. If you wish to do it yourself, even if you are handy, alot at least 4 hours, if you have never done one before, not including trips to hardware store, & to our store if necessary. The system manual has good schematics. HT color codes fittings. But, your learning curve might be steep. If you need technical support, we charge $100 per hour (prorated by15 minute increments).
If you wish to install your own system - A few words of advice
Read the instructions, which address many different plumbing circumstances. Get familiar with the parts: Ball Valve, Open box, check that the Drain Line Adapter is a DLA-D (HT sometimes sends DLA-9 or DLA-12 by accident- You need to take apart your drain first on that one).
To determine whether you can install themselves, Ask yourself these questions: Do you have a hole in your sink. If not, you need one. Do you have right tools? Drill bits, can cost $75 - $100 (depending on what type of sink you have - porcelain sinks are more susceptible to cracking - be sure to use a diamond drill bit for porcelain.)
Specifics of installation’ We use ball valves that connect up to riser tube. We bring a variety of ball valves when we install- the one provided may or may not work. you may need to make a couple of trips to complete.
Cold water ball valve We usually do not hook directly to the we go to riser. May need an addtional part. Do you haveTeflon- use only metal to metal or plastic to plastic, not where there is a washer or O-ring because compression fittings - you can change the compression.
Drain connection - if they don’t have a garbage disposal, they can’t use a DLA-D, can’t hook up. They need to use a drain clamp - over drain pipe before the P-Trap. If old drain - can start falling a part. Also may not be to code in all places. It is not a firm connection. Must have a drain connection, cuz system uses water to wash water. Faucet - Airgap chances slim to none to have problems. connected GD port, to connect Airgap to dishwasher. If no disposal
If no dishwasher white Y with JG comes from spigot, goes to same drain that disposal goes to. Should not take more than 5 - 10 minutes. If more, maybe one of the above.
