Educational opportunities for classroom or schoolwide curricular activities:
  • Write and circulate a petition in your community to ban bottled water in your _________ (school, town, club, rec center etc. )
  • "Track" and document the possible FUTURE lifetime travels of one particular plastic bottle & the "footprint" it makes. Show where it is after 5 months, 5 years, 50 years, 500 years, 5000 years.
  • Research @ THE PAST incarnations of One particular bottle, since the time of the dinosaurs, and document the geologic forces & resources that went IN to making that bottle as well energy, carbon and resources used to manufacture it.
  • Community art project using plastic bottles with paper machet.
  • Create a creature or a machine or sculpture, using only bottles and other discarded materials.(Animals for the school playground? Use milk cartons, juice bottles & even oil drums as well as plastic bottles.)
  • Survey your classmates, and other classes & challenge them to come up with possible "uses" for discarded bottles.  Implement, or have them implement some of the ideas.
  • Create a schoolwide contest: Guess how many bottles are discarded in: India, China, USA, your town, your school, your household etc. Show it in some sort of pie chart, map, graph etc. Show how many bottles would saved from landfill if your household (community, school, town, country etc.) stopped using them.
  • Write a letter to your local School /Grocery store / restaurant to encourage them to distinguish themselves and get lots of publicity by discontinuing the sales or consumption of bottled water.  Present some of the documentation gleaned from above research to them.
  • Build a model boat from a plastic bottle, using only available and discarded items.
  • Have us install fill stations (shown L) at your school and avoid bottled water!
